What is Back Pain?
Back pain is very common, it affects 4 out of 5 people at some point in their life and equates to 8.9 million days a year in sickness. It is therefore not surprising that it is one of the most common causes of pain we see at The LBPC and it is regularly treated by our specialist physiotherapists.
The symptoms of lower back pain can present in all sorts of ways, mainly because it is a pretty complex area and surrounded by lots of intricate structures. In general, though, most people tend to fit into three main groups:
Local pain which , as it sounds, only occurs in a specific area of the lower back and it is the most common type of back pain. The pain may be constant and aching or, at times, intermittent and sharp. Often, local pain can be aggravated or relieved by changes in position. The lower back may be sore when touched and muscle spasms may occur.
Additionally, back pain can sometimes include these symptoms:
-
Difficulty putting your socks on due to back pain.
-
Pain rolling over in bed.
-
Pain when sat in a car or chair for prolonged periods.
-
Pain or discomfort standing for too long.
-
Painful and stiff back in the morning.
-
Pain that develops with walking but then eases with sitting.
-
Referred pain in to the backs of your legs or feet.
-
Constantly feeling the need to crack your back.
These are some of the common symptoms associated with back pain, but it's essential to note that experiences vary, and additional symptoms may be present depending on the underlying cause of the back pain. If you're experiencing any of these symptoms you can contact us here at the LBPC.

Why does your Back Hurt?
Understanding why your lower back hurts is the initial step toward seeking relief and moving freely again. Lower back pain can stem from various factors, like straining your muscles due to how you sit or move, wear and tear in the lower spine as you age, injuries from accidents, or issues from the nerves in your lower back.
Once we know what's causing your pain, our team at the LBPC can create a personalised plan to help ease your pain and get you back to feeling good again.
